4 Tips to Ensure Your Ring Survives the Summer

by Blog Editors

It’s officially summer! June gloom is starting to fade, and we can all but smell the sunscreen and citronella in the air. It’s time to start gearing up for weekend jaunts, epic beach days, backyard lounge sessions, full-on vacation and of course, spending as much time in the sun as humanly possible.

If you’re as excited about summer as we are, chances are you’ve got your swimsuits and beach accessories down pat, but one thing you may need is a refresher in how to keep your jewelry from getting ruined by the elements.  Here are 4 tips to help keep your jewelry sparking all summer long.

1. Stay away from sand

Okay who are we kidding? If you’re going to the beach, sand is literally everywhere so you better enjoy it. We just mean consider leaving your jewelry at home since even super fine sand becomes a danger to gemstones and precious metals, as it can cause unsightly dings and scratches.

2. Don’t skimp on the sunscreen

But do remove your jewelry before applying. Sunscreen, lotion, bug spray—all the summer essentials—could cause build up on your jewelry, leaving a dull reside and making it harder to clean.

3. Remove it or lose it

There’s nothing more refreshing or freeing as diving into a cold body of water on a hot summer day. But before you take the plunge, take off your rings please. In cold water, your fingers could shrink up and your ring could fall off, leaving your most prized possession at the bottom of some lake or ocean as eel chow.

4. Practice caution in chlorine

Getting plenty of pool time is up there in terms of favorite summer activates, but if you’re going to swim, leave the real stuff at home. Chlorine can damage and discolor precious metals like gold and platinum and can eventually erode the finish of gemstones.

Happy summer! And remember to check out the feed daily see the latest summer ring trends.
